2016 is already off to a great start.  So far in January, we have had volunteers coming in regularly as per usual, but we have also had a few special groups come out to help as well.

At 52 W Basin St., Preston Pickett - a cousin of Lenny Bazemore, who donated the house to Habitat - volunteered with some friends to help with demolition.  At the Philly Home Show last weekend, volunteers from Methacton High School as well as several of our regular ReStore volunteers assisted staff at our booth to share information about HFHMC with those who came out to the show.

On Monday, January 18, a wonderful, dedicated group from Vanguard came out to Pottstown for our MLK Day of Service in freezing temperatures!  This group got up early to brave the cold and windy conditions in order to come out and help us make an impact.  This group was definitely hard-working and was willing to do whatever task that Steve, our Construction Site Supervisor, threw at them.  They certainly made the most of the day and got a ton of work done in the yard.  This Vanguard group cut down tree branches, bundled them, raked up the yard, bagged debris, took down fences, and truly made a big impact in a small amount of time.  One of the neighbors even came out to express how excited he was that this house was finally going to be maintained again and that he cannot wait to welcome a new family to the neighborhood in a couple of months.

Next week will round out our January volunteer opportunities with our Women Build Week event – a week where women from all over the county are scheduled to volunteer to build at 130 Wayne Ave and 52 W Basin St.  All in all, we’ve had a very successful month and our continued success as an organization is because of our dedicated volunteers!

Thank you to all who have come out to help, and we welcome anyone who would like to lend a hand up, not a hand out!
