Even though the temperatures have been hovering around 20 degrees, I assure you, Spring is coming. With it, Habitat for Humanity will be celebrating its 25th anniversary – quite a milestone for a small community organization!

To properly mark this occasion, we are hosting a fundraising “Block Party” at the Elmwood Park Zoo in Norristown on Thursday, April 23rd at 6:30PM.

Why the Zoo? We believe a community is only as strong as the organizations that enhance it. The Zoo is one such organization, providing a valuable resource for the families of Norristown. Habitat also provides a resource to Norristown, so the partnership seemed to be a natural extension of our focus on revitalizing this wonderful community. The Zoo has a fantastic space, complete with a living roof and a fireplace, just in case we can’t shake this winter chill…

We hope the evening will be a fun, interesting look back at the accomplishments of Habitat and the people who made it possible. It will also an exciting look forward to the work we’ve planned over the next several years, including the dedication of our 60th home later this spring. If you know us, you know that we try to bring joy to the work we do. After all, handing keys over to a family that has worked so hard to become homeowners is one of the most joyous moments I’ve experienced. The Block Party will be an extension of that joy – celebrating the many volunteers, board members and supporters who’ve handed over keys for 58 homes. It will also be a chance for Habitat to honor the Genuardi Family Foundation and their commitment to our work for many, many years. There will also be a Live Auction, great food and an opportunity to “build a neighborhood” with the other attendees.

I hope you will join us for this fun event celebrating Habitat and the many families that have benefitted from 25 years committed to ending substandard housing. For information on tickets, sponsorship or other ways to become involved click here, or go to our Facebook page.
