Busy Times Ahead
It used to be that the summer at Habitat was a time to
reflect and plan for the upcoming year. This summer, so
much has been happening, we are at a point where we can
hardly catch our breath.
For the first time, Habitat Mont Co is building
simultaneously in three communities. Our projects in
Pottstown, Norristown and North Hills continue to move along
at a brisk pace. This is excellent progress for an
organization that, 10 years ago, took more than a year to
complete one project. The best part about it is that
more families will be served by our industriousness. The
difficult thing about it is that we require more of everything
- tools, volunteers, sponsors and activists to help in our
effort to end poverty housing.
In this edition of Habichat, we will share some of the
progress on our latest projects as well as some of the needs
they bring. I hope you will be as excited about the
possbilities ahead as we are.

Branching Out in Three
Communities At the end of 2008, seven Montgomery
County families will have moved into new Habitat homes in
Pottstown, Norristown and North Hills.
Norristown, PA
Construction is almost done on the
Carriage Stone homes at Green and Jacoby Streets. In
fact, one of our new families has been calling this home for
more than a month now. Four additional families
have been working on hours to be able to be welcomed home by
the holidays. Currently, we are painting, hanging
cabinets, hanging drywall and generally putting the finishing
touches on this beautiful community.
After Carriage Stone is complete, our volunteers won't
have too much time to breathe - they will be starting a
reconstruction project on Cherry Street later this fall.
Pottstown, PA
 447 and
449 Beech Street are looking great! With the dedication
for 449 just around the corner (tentatively scheduled for
October 25, 2008), our volunteers have been working very hard
to finish the lighting, cabinets and painting. Work has
begun on 447 Beech and we hope to have it done later this
spring. Both homes were in terrible disrepair when we
started, but thanks to the Pottstown crew under the direction
of Bill Mest and Jason Saul, we have come a long
way!
 Linden
Ave, North Hills, Upper Dublin,
PA
The first set of twins has gone up quickly! Through
our grant from Thrivent Financial for Lutherans, Thrivent
Builds with Habitat program, we are encouraged to build these
homes within one calendar year. That means that our new
homeowners might be sitting around their own Thanksgiving
dinner tables on Linden Avenue this year. Currently, we
are working on the plumbing, electrical and heating for these
homes. Siding has gone up, front porches are on and
things are progressing nicely. Take a drive by if you get a
chance - it changes every day!
203 Linden Ave, sponsored by the Episcopal Unity Build,
will be breaking ground on September 13 at 10:30AM. We
welcome everyone from the community to come celebrate our next
phase of construction!
Meanwhile, we still have sponsorship opportunities
available for houses 4, 5, 6, and 7. Contact Marianne
Lynch ( marianne@habitatmontco.org) if you or your
group would be interested in supporting Habitat with this
significant opportunity.
Our projects are moving along, but we need
you! We have lots of opportunities every Wednesday for
the next 12 weeks. If you would like to sign up,

Have
Truck, Need Driver!
As the Restore project continues to move along, we are
seeking out volunteers for specific opportunities, including a
dedicated ReStore Driver. With our series of yard sales
coming up, we are already picking up lots of items that people
are thrilled to donte. We are looking for someone
to perform the following duties on a regular
basis:
- Drive ReStore truck to and from donation sites as
well as routine pick-up locations.
- Fill out donation reports for items donated.
- Be responsible to interact effectively with donor
representatives to acquire the building materials,
appliances and furniture to be marketed at the Restore.
- Work with volunteers to ensure that all donations are
received in a timely, organized and safe manner.
- Coordinate and communicate effectively with warehouse
volunteers regarding the nature of the donations and the
related off loading and handling requirements.
- Must possess a valid driver's license and
insurance.
- Have fun driving a really nice little truck!
- Help Habitat Mont Co end poverty housing
by creating additional income.
- Help save the environment by keeping these items out of
the landfill.
If you are interested in this or any volunteer opportunity
with the ReStore, please contact Beth Helfrich at bethh@habtitatmontco.org

"The test of our progress is not whether we
add more to the abundance of those who have much; it is
whether we provide enough for those who have too little. "
